"Our southern brothers have done gricvousle; they have rebbelled and have attacked their father's house and their loyal brothers, they must be punished and brought back, but this necessity breaks my heart." -Major Robert Anderson
Fort Sumter (Conferderate win)
Fort Sumter really wasn't a battle, but it was very important because it's where the Civil War's first shots were fired. Fort Sumter was located on an island in South Carolina, in Charleston Harbor. South Carolina didn't like that the union had control of the and, wouldn't let them bring supplies (food, amunition, ect.) into the fort. As a result the conferderate army demanded that the fort be evacuated. The northern army refused, and the confederates opened fire. The union surendered and the confederates captured the fort. The most important thing was that this little battle was the start of the long and bloody Civil War.
"There stands Jackson like a stonewall! Rally behing the virgiananse!" - Brigadier B
The Frist Battle of Bull Run (Confederate win)
The First Battle of Bull Run was the first real battle of the Civil War. The Union's goal was to crush the South, so they marched twords the Conferderate Capital, Richmond. When they ment the Conferderates in Manassas, they had the conferderates retreating. But as the Conferderates reinforcements arrived the pushed the union back twords the north. This battle proved one thing, this wasn't going to be a quick and easy war with one side winning without trying. As a result of this battle, it left the South feeling victourous, and the Union wanting revenge.
"...We are adrift here in a sea of blood and I want it to end. I want this to be the final battle." -Genral Longstreet, before Picket's Charge
Battle of Gettysburg (Union Win)
The Battle of Gettysburg was the last major battle of the Civil War.This battle wass really just the two armies bumping into each other, because all the roads converged onto one street, Gettysburg. Genral E. Lee (Confederate)wanted to get his army in between the Union army and Washington D.Cto isolate them, therefore winning the war.
The first day of the battle the Conferderate amry was very timid in attacking the union troops, because Genral Lee had no ide how many Union troops were there. After a day of fighting the northern army was being pushed back.
During day 2 more Union troops arrived and occupied the high ground near Cemetary Ridge. After this the Conferderate
troops tried to flank the Union army but couldn't. Then, they tried to break through the Union but that still ended in fail.
In the final day of the battlethe Confederates gave one final attempt to over run the Union army.Genral E. Lee sent his entire forces across an open feild stright at the Union army. Genral George Pickett led the charge. This led many Conferderate troops to where they would be slaughterd. This was know as Pickett's Charge.
After the Union won at Gettyburg, the South couldn't continue to battle the stronger North, because of everything that they had lost.

" I have destroyed over 2,000 barns filled with wheat, hay and farming impements;over 70 mills filled with flour and wheat..." - Genral Sherman
Sherman's March to the Sea
Sherman's march really wasn't a battle, so no one really own, but it definitly
helped the North.
While Grant and the Wilderness Campaine were trying to capture Richmond, he sent Willam Tecumsuh Sherman
to "clear" the south. Sherman's army tryed to lure the Conferderates into a fight. Instead the Conferderates ran. Sherman and his men cleared everything in its path including bridges, people, buildings, plantations. This is known as total war, when you destroy both military and civilan resources.
In 1864 100,000 troops took over Atlanta and burnt half the city to the ground. After this they continued along ther Atlantic coast twords Savannah. Sherman's March to the Sea was the last major devestation to the South.
