Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis was a war hero in the west, and was chosen to be the presdent of the Conferate States. At first he didn't want to be president, he wanted to be a genral in the army. He ended up taking the job, bcause of his moderate stance on leaving the union, when states tried to determine laws for their new counrty he argued against it, and he elected good leaders for the army. He ran the army in a poor way, he argued with his genrals.
In 1866, he was tried for treason. He was released in 1868. On April 2, 1865, he and the other members of the Confederate Government were forced to flee from Richmond VA before the oncoming Union Army. He was captured by Northern soldiers near Irwinville, Georgia on May 10, 1865. He was imprisoned at Fort Monroe, Virginia for two years. He was never tried for treason, but was released on a bond in May 1867.
