The Election Of Lincoln
Summary
The election of 1860 was an impotant one, it decided who was to be president during the hard times. Abraham Lincon was the representive for the republicans. Stephen Douglass, was the represenitive for the northern democrats, while, John C. Brekinrige was representing the southern democrats. Democrats knew they wouldn't win with their votes being divided inbetween two canadates, so they created the Constutinal Union Party and nominated John C. Bell.
When the votes were in Lincoln had won all the northern states, Brekinrige won the south, and Bell won the border states. While Douglass clamed Missouri and part of New Jersey. With this the north did what the south always feared. Their population was bigger, therefore they had more electorial power. The free states had complete control of the government.
This did not sit well in the south and they slowly sceded from the nation.
